Roundtable Discussion (RTD) on the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD)

As part of its commemorative activities for the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, and on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration 2012 (AHRD), the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) convened a Roundtable Discussion (RTD) on the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD) on 28 November 2017 in Bohol, the Philippines. The RTD was a platform to discuss the AHRD with representatives of ASEAN Sectoral Bodies and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Consultative Relationship with the AICHR. The CSO’s submitted The Bohol Proposal: CSOs Recommendations to the AICHR for the Promotion and Implementation of ASEAN Human Rights Declaration to the RTD which was taken up positively by the AICHR to strengthen its communication, coordination, and meaningful engagement between CSOs and AICHR to achieve the common aspiration that no one is left behind in the ASEAN community.

The Bohol Proposal call upon AICHR to: Advance and strengthen communication, cooperation, and exchange of ideas with the CSO’s at the regional and national level; To create the communication mechanism between AICHR and CSO’s to document key human rights concerns in the national and regional level for the protection and promotion of human rights in ASEAN; To support AMS in ensuring that human rights principles are consistently upheld, in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and To ensure that the results to AICHR's regional consultations and dialogues have concrete improvements in the lives of the ASEAN people.

Pursuant to the AICHR’s on-going efforts to broaden and deepen partnerships with CSOs, the AICHR has now accredited 22 CSOs, including ASETUC.
