Preparatory Meeting for ASETUC Viet Nam National Advocacy Seminar, 15th June 2010, Ha Noi, Viet Nam
On 15th June 2010, the Vietnam National Union of Post and Telecommunications Workers (VNUPTW) hosted the preparatory meetings for the ASETUC National Advocacy Seminar in Vietnam. Participants included 17 delegates from ASETUC Working Group in Viet Nam, representatives from the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and ASETUC Secretariat. As the Chairman of ASEAN services employees trade union council (ASETUC) and President of the Vietnam National Union of Post and Telecommunications Workers (VNUPTW), brother Hoang Huy Loat welcomed the presence of other national industrial unions in the ASETUC Working group in Vietnam – Viet Nam National Union of Bank Workers (VNUBW), Viet Nam National Union of Industry and Trade (VUIT), Viet Nam National Union Building Workers (VNUBW), Viet Nam National Union of Agriculture and Rural Development Workers (VNUARDW), Viet Nam National Union of Health Workers (VNUHW).
In the meeting, brother Chau Nhat Binh, Deputy Head of International Department of VGCL reiterated the rationale of the establishment of the ASETUC Working group in Viet Nam, which shows the active role of Vietnam industrial unions in the partnership with the 3 Global Union Federations (GUFs) – UNI Apro, BWI and PSI. He also highly appreciated the cooperation among Vietnam industrial trade unions and encouraged the unions to actively participate in contributing their ideas in upcoming activities of ASETUC.
Sister Nguyen Xuan Huong Mai, representing the ASETUC Secretariat gave a presentation on ASETUC”s activities in 2009 and 2010 as well as the achievement of ASETUC National Advocacy Seminar in the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. She took note of the positive cooperation of Viet Nam industrial unions in the services sectors with ASETUC and ASETUC partners in the process of engaging ASEAN. ASETUC Secretariat expressed the confidence that the ASETUC Working group in Viet Nam will contribute to the overall goals as to raise the awareness of employees in the services sectors of ASEAN, ASEAN Economic Integration, its impacts on services employees and trade unions and to empower their voices in the current structure of ASEAN through promoting a mechanism for regional social dialogue.
The ASETUC National Advocacy Seminar will take place on 2nd August 2010 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam.
